WriteFox is a browser extension that helps you fix spelling, rewrite text, translate, and compose content using AI. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
2. Data We Collect
WriteFox processes the following data:
- Selected text: Text you select on web pages is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. This text is not stored on our servers.
- User preferences: Language selection, display settings stored locally on your device.
- Usage statistics: Daily usage counts stored locally to enforce rate limits.
- API Key: Your Gemini API key is stored locally on your device.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, address).
- We do not track your browsing history.
- We do not store the text you process — it is sent directly to Google's API and discarded.
- We do not use cookies or third-party analytics.
- We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data.
4. Third-Party Services
WriteFox uses the following third-party services:
- Google Gemini API: To process text (fix, rewrite, translate, compose). Text is sent to Google's servers for AI processing. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Fonts: For typography (Inter font family).
5. Data Storage
All preferences and usage data are stored using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API, which keeps data entirely on your local device.
6. Permissions Used
activeTab: To read text you select on the current page.
storage: To save your preferences and usage data locally.
sidePanel: To display the WriteFox Compose sidebar.
contextMenus: To add right-click menu options.
